One For Three

Three and out.

That’s a term usually reserved for football.  In this case it applies to basketball.

After Saturday’s win over Memphis, Tennessee’s men’s basketball team was ranked #1 for the first time ever…and for three days.  After last night’s three-point loss to Vanderbilt, their brief time at the top came to the end.

Three days.  Three points.

I never thought it was going to last.  Basketball rankings flucuate so much.  Especially toward the end of the season.  But I figured we’d hold on through a couple of games.  At least a week.   And I guess technically by the record books it will be a week since the new polls don’t come out until Monday.

Three days.  Three points.

After the win on Saturday night I said to the attorney that I was not sure that I was comfortable with Tennessee having a #1 ranking.  Because you can only go down from there.

But it’s not the end of the world (or the season) by far. The Vols only have 3 losses and a tough schedule, so they will still be ranked high.  They are still at the top of the Southeastern Conference, and unless things just go crazy, they will be a top seed in the NCAA tournaments come March.

That will be the chance to win it all.

I’d much rather be #1 at the end than any other time.

The Vols are still a great team. You should be proud that the State of Tennessee has three great teams prepared to do well in the NCAA Tournament. Talk about DRAMA should two of the three meet in March Madness. That will be an outright CIVIL WAR! It’s been fun to watch the Vols this year. This was the second Tennessee basketball game I watched in less than four days. I was like “Oh… look at Vandy fans… they finally have something to cheer about this year”. Congrats to them. Sorry about the loss for you.

Had to happen. You knew it. Stay tuned and we shall see where they end up in the big dance. They are a great team and will do well. Who knows, they might just go all the way this year.

How many goals did they make? Did they get a touchdown?

Actually, I think that term comes from baseball and it is “three strikes and your out”. I have never heard that term for football.
