Xtra LARGETONY

Either the world got a little smaller or I grew a little bigger. Well, the blog grew a little bigger, anyway.
Yesterday I had a big spike. (Again, the blog I mean. It’s not that unusual for me personally to have a big spike.) I checked to see where all the extra traffic was coming from and found out that the mainstream has taken notice.
The blog made the Knoxville, Tennessee newspaper.
Well, a supplement of the paper.
The Knoxville News-Sentinel runs a sports supplement (the reading kind, not the Barry Bonds/Roger Clemens..allegedly…kind.) called GoVolsXtra. Yesterday there was a column that ran a small list of blogs that talked about the Tennessee-Memphis game.
Guess which blog was included.
Can you believe it? Little ol’ me. In a regional newspaper. (Okay, it was just a listing, but still…)
My little plot of cyberspace has been mentioned in print before. But that was in a gay magazine that focuses on the internet. A pretty specific niche.
I know a sports page supplement is a niche, too. But this feels like something more. I am so thrilled by this I can’t tell you.
Like the commercial says, “I’m swelling with pride.”
It feels like a little something Xtra.

Umm, I’ve been lurking for a while on this blog. I really like it. I used to go to Knoxville all the time when young, to visit cousins, and one of my best friends from art school still lives there.
Doncha think that the attention might be a little strange given the overall color of your blog? Has East Tennessee changed since I was there last? I got super stared at just for Gauntlet earrings and hair.
Just wondering…

You couldn’t hide your brilliance under a bushel forever. Enjoy the attention! You are knowledgable and philosophic about Vols football and a pleasure to read. The News-Sentinal would do well to give you a guest column from time to time.
