Peyton Scores

You know I was not going to let Peyton Manning’s appearance on SNL go by without posting a couple of videos for those of you who missed it (as well as for you Brady lovers. :- ) )
I’m proud to say that Peyton was damned good for a guy who isn’t an actor or an entertainer. In fact, he was better than some of the hosts who are actors. I might get me banished to the sofa for a few nights, but I have to say I thought he was funnier than Jake (except for the Dreamgirls opening. Never saw an opening monologue funnier than that).
Peyton also did a really good job of not staring at the cue cards the way a lot of other hosts (and cast members) do. Maybe he learned his lines, unlike a lot of other hosts (and cast members). As a quarterback he has to memorize a ton of plays and signals, so maybe it comes naturally to him.
Another thing that stood out was that he seemed to be in more skits than most hosts. He was in every single one except for the weekend news segment. But his best moments were when he was poking fun at himself. He even told a joke during his monologue about an old man who asked him “How is Tom Brady like the circus?” The punch line: “The both have two more rings than you, Peyton.” (For those of you non-sports, non-football types, Tom Brady has three Superbowl rings, Peyton has one. Circuses have three rings. Get it?”
Here is video from SNL’s hilarious commerical spoof that takes a jab at his squeaky-clean image:
In this ESPN spoof, he takes punches like a prize-fighter for his reputation as being one of the greatest to never win the big game (something Brady-philes love to point out). My only problem with this skit is that it begins with footage of final buzzer in Tennessee’s loss to Ohio State in the NCAA tournament. Grrrrrr.*
UPDATE: NBC had this one removed from You Tube. It has not popped up on DailyMotion yet.
*For the record, I am pulling for Georgetown in the Final Four in the tournament. I have nothing against UCLA, but it’s a west coast school. I can’t pull for Ohio State because of last week’s game. And I can’t pull for Florida because…well…it’s Florida. Need I say more? In fact, I would be perfectly happy to see Georgetown vs. UCLA in the final game. We already saw Florida vs. Ohio State in the football national championship.

I tried soooo hard to stay up and watch him… but it was a long day of yard work and I fell asleep during the 11 o’clock news… I woke up at 2:30 with TV blarring… I guess I will have to catch the repeat at some point… he has a good sense of humor so I am sure it was probably pretty good…

The vids are gone now due to copyright NBC blah dee blah infringement crap. I’m rooting for Georgetown too. Only because they’re local and the only DC school to have made it this far.

Ummm…AOL is NOT painting as rosy a picture of Peyton. In fact, the article advises
parents to keep him away from children. They even went so far as to call him goofy. I
suppose Brady is rolling in the aisle. Call up AOL and check out the article.
Does this mean I can have Jake?

I really enjoyed Peyton on SNL. I thought he was much funnier and a better actor than Brady. I also think he had more air time than almost any other host I can remember, whether it be actor, politician, singer, ‘entertainer’, or sport figure. His refusal, inability to throw the rock in the “300″ sketch was hilarious because Peyton did not rush the comic timing. The only thing better on TV this wekend than SNL was Georgetown whooping Carolina in overtime. As a Hoya and Terp alum it warmed my heart to see the Tarheels lose it. Hoya Saxa!

Typical YouTube took them down. Thanks for the review. I can’t stomach SNL anymore. I will have to keep an eye out for these clips.

I love that one! What’s really cool is that you can tell the kids are enjoying it too. Peyton Manning strikes me as a terrific guy. We could all take a lesson from his playbook.

SNL has really gone to the dogs lately. The show with Peyton was the one bright spot this season.
