It Was So Big

There is good news and bad news. The good news (for most of you reading) is that I won’t be talking about basketball anymore (not until next winter anyway). The bad news (and the reason why I won’t be talking about basketball) is that Tennessee is out of the NCAA tournament. March Madness has become March Sadness for the Vols.

Tennessee lost last night to Ohio State by one point. On the one hand you have to say “way to go” for the Vols (who were not expected to win) making it a one point game against a #1 seed team. You have to say “way to go” for making it to the Sweet Sixteen round for only the third time in the school’s history. You have to say “wtg” for making it into the NCAA tournament two years in a row when the program was in to toilet just 24 months ago.

But then you have to turn that unto a big “WTF” for blowing a 20-point lead to lose the game. It all started off great. Tennessee went on the board (scored) first with a three-pointer. Ohio State answered with a three of their own. And so it went back and forth for a few minutes. Three-pointers were being dropped like a whore’s panties on Christmas. But, then Tennessee broke away and led by as much as 20 points. It was David and Goliath, and at halftime the Vols went to the locker room with a 17-point margin.

That’s also when I turned to the attorney with that gleam in my eye. A gleam that said I am totally into victory sex and once this game is over, it’s on!  Tennessee was going to win its first Sweet Sixteen (against the #1 team, no less) and go to it’s first Elite Eight.  It was going to be BIG.

But, twenty minutes (of game time) later I was as frigid with depression. I watched a lead that was “this big” dwindle to to ten points, then six, then three. The point spread got smaller and smaller. My pecker mirrored the effect. It was like that one sad lonely balloon left over days after a birthday party: all shriveled and wrinkle and with a weird softness that can’t be rejuvenated into hardness. (That’s what I pictured, anyway. I didn’t actually take it out to check. What if i was right?)

The Vols lost the big lead, lost the big game, and I lost my big boner.

When I talked about Tennessee one-point loss to Florida back during football season, I said that I would almost rather lose a game in a big way instead of by just one point. It’s not so bad eating lunch meat if you never smelled the steak in the next room. But when the steak is on your plate and it’s a big 21-ouncer (or 20 as the case may be), it’s a damn tragedy to trip and fall and have the dog take it away from you. You’re just left drooling with a scab on your knee.

Although I’ll admit that a drooling guy with scabby knees could mean a good time. But I digress.

Now that the NCAA March Madness is over (as far as I’m concerned) I’ll turn all my attention to Malcontent’s Gay Blog March Madness. Hopefully some of you were prompted to vote from my last post because all three of my boys, Nicky at Ajax in the City, Kenneth at Kenneth in the (212), and ChadFox at Stop Touching My Food all won their rounds and made it to the Sweet Sixteen. So I’m asking to all to go over and vote again in this round.

Unfortunately Ajax in the City and Kenneth in the (212) are up against each other. So you’ll have to pick one…which will be difficult because they are both great guys with great blogs, both very funny (Ajax is more hit you with it, Kenneth is more dry), both cute, but are soooooo different. You really can’t compare the two. But, Stop Touching My Food is a definite pick in his round (perhaps the greatest, funniest, and cutest of all, in my opinion…in fact, you have to read his most recent post.). So, go vote NOW.

I love it when men talk about sports. No would some kindly fellow like to sit on my lap and explain what a ball is to dear old knotty?

I thought the Vols did very well indeed. I was thinking about you at half time. You have to admit that OSU has been doing very well this year in both footbal and basketball. I’m real proud of my boys this year.

Sorry about Tennessee’s loss. I’m still counting on Georgetown tonight. Hope you and the attorney at least managed some ‘consolation’ cuddling, since no victory sex.

Sounds just like an opportunity for infection if you ask me! Maybe if you use neosporin afterwards……

I’d say sorry about your loss and I do feel your pain - but your loss was my gain, though I lost the bracket the first day out when Duke lost. I have OSU winning, but going against Duke in the finals.

…and who knew Old Dominion would lose round 1??? Oh that’s right………..everybody!

Ah, Tennessee has inherited the Syracuse curse. Get a 20 point lead and lose it in the 2nd half by a single point. Frustrating isn’t it? But at least they show promise now, and with proper coaching they will do better next year. Hey, they made it to sweet 16, maybe next year they will go further. The program should pick up speed now.
