Fast

Hey…remember me? It’s the tall, goofy guy with big ears. Hopefully too many of you have not abandoned the blog in my absence. But, if you did, you would not be reading this anyway, so I guess it’s moot.

I’ve been fasting. Blog fasting.

When you fast for health reasons, its supposed to be to purge your body of toxins and rejuvenate your system.

In the last ten days or so, I have not written any posts, I have not read any other blogs, and I have barely responded to e-mails.

I didn’t set out to go on a fast. It just sort of happened. The first few days it was just a matter of not having anything to say or write. Ya’ll know me. If I got nothing to say, I keep my mouth shut. I don’t talk just to hear myself talk. Likewise, I don’t write just to see myself post.

It felt sort of good to just take a break from things and not wrestle with the pressure to write something. I had gotten myself in a place where I was starting to concern myself about whether readers would be interested in what I wanted to write about. It’s one of the potential traps of blogging. You start writing more for your audience than for yourself.

Now, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care if people read or not. Of course, I care. I want readers. Otherwise the blog would not be published. Instead I would be writing my private thought in some little diary with one of those strap locks you can bust by sneezing on it. (Or maybe in my Jake Gyllenhaal trapper keeper). But, at the same time, this is a personal blog. Not personal as in private, but personal as in it’s about me and some aspects of my life. It’s not going to be interesting to everyone. But, at least a handful of people will come back for more, not matter how infrequent the posts.

It’s kind of like M-n-M’s. I don’t care how many are in the bag as long as I get a few.

So, I figured why not just stay away from it for a few more days (even if I got hungry) and maybe it would cleanse my mind (cleanse as in freeing up my thinking. My mind is too filthy to ever be clean) and stimulate my writing.

I’m not sure if it worked. That remains to be seen. But, it has definitely put things back in perspective for me.

People fast for spiritual reasons, too.

Do what is right for you and let the rest sort themselves out. Be honest with yourself and you can’t go wrong. You’ll be alright.

or maybe you got a new boyfriend and one thing your not doing is fasting. f…fasting.

missed your thoughts. i’m glad you were fasting with purpose and not just ’skipping meals’…i was worried you or granny were sick or hopeful your ‘lawyer’ was keeping you occupied!

    You see…?
    Selfish.

Hey Tony - You were missed! Your posts are always thought-provoking, so if it’s a question of quality versus quantity, you seem to be doing the right thing. When I try to post daily, most of it is crap - whereas every single post of yours is pretty impressive.

I did miss you (as you could probably tell). I’m glad you’re getting back on track mentally too.

We all need a good cleaning out, now and then. Glad you’re well and getting back to business. You have been missed.

I just figured that you were “busy” with the lawyer. ;) But I hope that acheived what you desired and will be back soon. Take care, big guy!

Hi Tony… I’ve been reading your blog for a while, I feel the same way sometimes. You do the right thing by posting when you feel like it instead of feeling obligated to say something to satisfy us. I’m sure the other readers agree it was good to hear from you again though, even if just to explain why it’s been quiet around here. Thank you!

    Ohmmmmmmm……
It’s all good honey. Who can’t say that 3 years of typing eventually has to have a breathing space…somewhere. Relax knowing that you’re still loved and have planty for us to read, whatever it my be.
    Hugs,

Sometimes a break is what we need to clear the mind. Do what you got to do. Enjoy your life and downtime. Relax. Have fun. When you pop up on my feed, I will check in. You are a good writer (and a sexy man)… We, as readers, will be here as long as you are and as often as you are. Smooches!

A break can be good and even a bit refreshing. No worries my friend. We’ll still be here.

I think if shutup for my more than a day my ass would blow off. No such luck for me I guess. *G*
