More Things I (Almost) Never Do

dreams.jpg

As I said the last time I talked about things that I almost never do, I was going to actually go to the movies twice in less than two months time. To see Dreamgirls. My original plan was to see it just after it opened on Christmas Day, but I kept putting it off. In fact, I probably would not have even gone last Friday if it had not been for doing something else that I almost never do: I went on a date.

I didn’t mention anything about it before Friday because there was always the chance that I would back out and I didn’t want to have to admit it if I did. But I did it and here I am. My date was someone who I have sort of been out with before (except on that occasion, back in the Spring of 2005, “out” was actually in his hot tub). Things did not go anywhere that night (my choice), but it wasn’t because I didn’t like him. And then we just lost contact. He had given me his number (he did not have mine) and the ball was in my court, but I just let it drop.

I’m not sure why. He’s a nice guy. He’s handsome. He’s a bit older than me (46) but is athletic and still in good shape. He’s taller than me (which almost never happens because smaller guys tend to be drawn to me) and probably has about 20 solid pounds on me. He’s an attorney. And he likes big ones. So, why did I not pursue it? Who knows. Maybe because deep down i knew that I’m not in a position to get deeply involved with somebody, but I liked him too much to just lay some pipe and move on.

But fate threw us together again last week at Walgreen’s. We chatted for a little while and caught up. He said that we should get together sometime and I agreed. Sometime. But then he pinned me down (on picking a time, not physically pinned me down…it would take more than a 20 pound surplus to do that) and next thing I knew I had a date for the movies.

The theater was really crowded, which surprised me since the movie has been out for a month. We had to crawl over some people (advantage: us, for both having long legs) to get to some seats where a woman gave me a frustrated sigh because her coat had to give up a seat for me. I almost never sit anywhere other than the back (to not block short women) or on the aisle (for leg room), but we were pretty much smack in the middle of everything. At least it was stadium seating so I didn’t feel like a couple of mooses (sp?) in front of somebody.

So, what did I think of the movie? I liked it. I liked it a lot. But, for some reason I was left wanting more. I think maybe I had built my expectations up too much and ended up feeling like the movie was missing something. Missing what, I don’t know. When I think it through, everything was there. It was cool to look at it, the music was pretty good and sung really well, the characters were believable (although I have to say I liked Beyonce better when her character was in her younger years). And it was an interesting story. I don’t know. I think its a really good movie, just maybe not as good a movie as I keep reading and hearing about.

After the movie we went to get some beer and pizza. The food was good and the conversation was, too. I was remarkably relaxed and had a good time. I think I feel a certain comfort with him because we are similar. We’re both kind of socially awkward; he grew up in the country; we both like basketball; and his ears are even bigger than mine. :-)

He wanted me to go home with him, but with Granny I can’t do overnights. And I had already been with him about four hours, so I needed to head back home. We did sit in the truck and talk a little bit longer…and even played a little bit. Nothing more than a little hands in the clothes action. Mine in his shirt, his in my jeans. What can I say, I like chests, he likes cocks and we’re both pretty meaty in our respective areas.

What’s going to come of all this? I don’t know. But, I did let him have my number this time. That’s something I almost never do.

Congrats on your date. Sounds like it went well and it is a good thing that you gave him your number. An attorney, yet; I am so proud of you.

That is SO cool that you don’t have a hang up with the age difference! Many would and I’ve never quite understood that.

And I was just thinking how nice it would be for you to connect with NY Jets QB Chad Pennington. You’re much better of with hot attn’y.

Actually, I’m very very jealous indeed… Very.

    Hey Tony,
Congrats on what sounds like was a good renewed acquaintanceship. And you have reassured me that age should not matter. I’m a 45 yr old professional guy in good shape, with decent looks, but feel like in “gaydom” I am ready for the trash bin. So thanks for that encourgement….and hopefully this will be a great continuing experience for you (or at least as far as you wish to take it)….best to you!

Wow! Taller than you, handsome, athletic, a licensed professional AND 46 years old…sounds like a perfect match for you. ;-)

  8. Nickster Says:

@Tom: often quite true, sadly (the trash bin theory), but personally, I’ve always been into mature men. I’m 27 years old, and I could very well imagine myself dating someone 10 to 15 years older. I see 40+ en 50+ men all the time that I would consider - to put it bluntly - severely fuckable. I wouldn’t because, well…what does a 50+ man have in common with a 27 year old besides the physical attraction, but for the rest, I don’t see any barriers. It’s all about good maintenance, good grooming, and especially: good attitude.

Nickster…thanks for your comments….(I have a good attitude, and good body — and all my teeth and hair — and occasionally some hair in my teeth ;-)) now let’s focus on Tony’s potential interest in a 46 year old, athletic, hot looking lawyer…..good wishes to you Tony!
