Oooh..Snap!

I don’t know if any of you have noticed little changes to the blog here and there over the last few weeks. When I got the new computer a few weeks ago, I decided that if I was going to have this suped-up thing I might as well learn more about how to use it. So through asking a lot of questions and bugging friends and fellow bloggers with stupid questions I am finally starting to learn what’s going on underneath the hood of Word Press. Luckily someone told me first thing to always back up whatever I was working on. Otherwise I would have lost this blog…a couple of times.

Anyway, now that I don’t have to ask someone to do the changes for me, I have been exploring more and have discovered a lot of plug-ins for Word Press (like the music player I used at Christmas). Many of them are not useful to me (and most of them I really don’t understand what they do) but every once in a while I come across something really cool. And I did today.

If you hover over any of the links on this page, you will see a little window pop up that gives you a snapshot of where the link leads. Try it. I’ll wait. (Muzak…Muzak..Muzak…) Isn’t that cool! The plug-in is called, naturally, SNAP! Yeah, I know its the kind of thing that could get annoying over time, but for now it has got me totally boned. You can click the URL at the top of the box or the snapshot itself to visit the link, or you can even use the search box at the bottom to look for something else. And it doesn’t seem to be slowing anything down.

The thing I like about it most is how useful it will be in turning you all on to other blogs. So, now everytime I mention either a new blog I have found or something on a old friend’s blog (plus everyone else on the blogroll) you can get real quick visual of what it is. I think it will make readers more likely to check someone else out. Which I think is the best thing about blogging…the connections. Try it out on the blogs I listed the other day in the post about traffic. (Or try it on the previous words :-) )

I have noticed that the snapshot is not always up to date..but if it’s off, it’s generally only from a few days ago.

Anyway, I hope you all find it useful and fun.

I’ve been contemplating moving from blogger; my love of the challenge of writing in XHTML and a host of new goodies over at Mozilla are what’s kept me there, but this is so sexy.

Moving day could be imminent. Great job on the blog.

Cool! I just installed it on my place, too. Lexxicuss, you can install it in Blogger and New Blogger, no problem.
