The Battered Blog

In a way, blogs are like aging boxers (the kind in a ring, not the kind you wear). Once they’ve been around awhile they start getting hit a lot.
I was looking over the stat logs for the blog to see how things had changed in 2006 and I’ve been hit a lot more than I thought.
It still boggles my mind that people from Guam, Malaysia, and Nigeria are reading this stuff. Most of my hits, of course, are from the US. Americans, I get. We’ll read anything. But I was surprised to see that the single city that gave me the most hits was not here in the U.S. I would have guessed San Francisco, just because of the number of ‘mos per capita. But it’s Toronto. San Francisco is actually 5th on the list. Apparently there’s something about Toronto I don’t know.
That’s the main reason I look at stats. To see where readers are coming from. Either by location or by link from another site. (It’s a great way to discover new blogs). But I decided to take a hard look at numbers. In the last twelve months, 715,000 visitors came here (as opposed to 207,000 in 2005) and delivered more than a million and a half hits. Lordy, Ive been hit so much that I’m staggering around the ring.
I know it’s not a lot compared to some blogs who probably are getting that much in a month, but this isn’t like a news blog or a gossip blog, or even one that features pubescent straight boys entwined. I’m just a guy in Tennessee. I’m not bragging. I’m just shocked.
The two primary ways that new readers are finding me is through other blogs and through Googling. It’s interesting what people put into searches that lead them here. Here are some from 2006:
- largetony - these people knew what they were looking for
- christopher meloni - there’s a picture of him in past post
- big feet big cock - well…true
- erick van der zaant - who? I would Google him, but it might just lead me back here
- skinny gay redneck - you found me
- women have better orgasms - that must be from a post where I was challenging that belief
- gay hump cat - lordy, people get specific in their fetishes
- weenie too small - wanna bet?
- slut depot - I think I’m offended
- cum in my wood shoes - I’m guessing a Dutch reader
- total bottom bear - could anything be more opposite?
- crotch rancher prick skinny - happy shiny I suckee five dolla
- nick lachey in boxers - WHERE??
- durex xxl discontinued why - because they strangle your thing
And hundreds more. I just wondered how many found something relevent to what they were looking for.
Naturally links from other blogs or sites is the biggest feeder. And most hits come from others who are on my blog roll. Particularly from Brenton at Aussielicious. But there’s several that I have recently discovered that are hitting me like we were Ike and Tina:
- VICARIOUS LIVING
- L’HOMME EST UN CONCEPT
- BOYS I LIKE
- PORN FOR PATRIC
- GAYDANKEN
- JEWLUST
- CAPERBOI
- YARRAVILLE PAUL
- THE RUGBY DAYS
- MY GAY WORLD
- ANGST IN THE MIDDLE AGES
- GO ON BOB
- ETHAN SAYS
- LE FLEUR
- ABOUT A BOY AND HIS BRIEFS
- CLOSET CONUNDRUMS
- LONE STAR STEVE
- KUNGFU KITTENS
- LEXX’S NEXXUS
Take a look at them. They are all different types of blogs. You might find one you like. I’m sure I missed somebody in all of this…so I apologize ahead of time.
Whoever you are and wherever you are…and whatever you do when you get here, thanks for the hits. I can take it.

Thank you Daddy. Here I was feeling left out ’cause I haven’t made the Large List and you call me out for the world to see.
Can’t wait to thank ya in person.

I have a hunch that a portion of your new traffic this year is from the shout-out you got in Cybersocket magazine. Congtatulations, now others are finding out what a funny and insightful blogger you are.

Hey Tony I have been reading your blog well before I started my own wee blog ( I know mine is tragic, I do fine it odd that people do look at it).
I like your writing and it is interesting hearing other peoples views on things,

Well first, you are a great read. But I think you’ve figured that out by now.
I’ve noticed similar occurrences as well. I often find the traffic comes in spurts and it’s more often from one or two link that then get a lot of hits for awhile. Actually, your blog gave me the highest total hits in the first half of last year!
I’m still amazed I get as many hits as I do (even after filtering out the web bots).

Thanks for listing. I have you on my blogroll because I like your site and several of the ones you’ve listed. Being unemployed allows me to read more blogs than I should, really. Now I’m going to peek at the new ones I haven’t seen before.
Keep up the good work, Tony!
