Can’t Contain It

Like a kudzu on a hillside in the height of summer….Like a hundred-pound dog on a leash with a fifty-pound test…Like a loaf of bread on “I Love Lucy”….You just can’t contain it.

I have tried to not blog about it.  Tried for two days. But I just can’t contain it any longer.

The college football rankings have come out after the first week of games, and it looks like you just can’t contain the Vols, either. After Tennessee’s whomping of #9-ranked California, Tennessee made the largest leap in the Associated Press poll of any team in the nation, moving twelve places from #23 up to #11. That’s right folks, catapulted into the top fifteen and knocking on the door of the Top Ten.

The Coaches Poll only moved Tennessee six spots, up to #17 from #23. But they had California originally ranked at #12, instead of #9. So, I guess the shift is still about right. Even with the lower ranking, it was still the biggest move up in that poll, too.

I had figured that Tennessee would move up to about #14. So, if you average the two polls, that’s right where we are. Now that we have moved up, the Southeastern Conference has the most high ranked teams of all the conferences, with Auburn at #4, Florida at #7, LSU at #8, Tennessee at #11, and Georgia at #12. It’s great to be a part of such a powerhouse conference, but it also means that we’ve got a rough road ahead of us…which means, win or lose, there’s going to be some pretty incredible football happening.

And like a big ol’ boner in a old worn out jock, I can barely contain my excitement.

I am SO completely out of the loop on this…
I was wondering why you’d posted a photo of a Toucan with its beak sewn up!
Thought it was probably symbolic or something…
    Welcome to my alternative world!

“Yes! American Football! That’s the game where they have the Toucans with their beaks sewn up!”
and to me, for a moment or two, that made complete sense…

LSU TIGERS ARE #8 BABY!!!! I feel we will face Auburn as a #7 team next week as the loser of the Texas vs. Ohio St. game will fall to #8. Auburn #4 vs. LSU #7… that’ll be a HUGE GAME. Don’t ya’ll face Florida later that evening?

My favorite quote from the article was this: “The crowd begins to chant, “SEC, SEC, SEC … ” There is no other conference more proud of itself than the SEC. SEC fans hate each other with a passion bordering on the pathological, but when success arrives, it is embraced not just for the winning team but for the conference at large. I suspect there are many reasons for this, not least the feeling among Southerners that the rest of the country just doesn’t understand us and seeks opportunities to malign us.”

I still think the Vols can take the Tigers!

    Go Panthers!

I’m happy to see that you’re happy about this. Granted, I’m not into football unless I have a personal interest (read: my hometown team or team where I live is playing), but I wish your team well. Go Vols! My friend from TN would love to hear me say that, too. She’s a huge Vols fan and graduated from UT.

Ok LT, USC baby!!!! #3. And right there, Notre Dame, #4.

So your Vols and BrettCajun’s Tigers need to step it up bud! Hehehe! ;-P

And now after see your commment on my post about life’s worries and throwing out your ‘bitch’ post, you have me wondering what it sparked for a post on your blog. You’ll have to let me know if I don’t get over to it in time.
