Have You Hugged A Lemming Today?

Today’s entry is dedicated to my blog buddy Larry. His blog, The Love Lemming, turns one year old today. (Cue the fanfare.) Not long after he started blogging, we stumbled across each other in an truck stop men’s room along I-18, where we shared the throat of pock-marked hustler looking for a quick Jackson (that’s a $20 bill for non-American readers). In exchange for the Jackson, we gave him our Johnsons, and after wiping up whore’s grimey metallica T-shirt, Larry shyly turned to me and said, “I’m Larry, any chance I could get you URL?”
OK. I made that up. (I hope you realized that.) Larry and I actually stumbled across each other on the Gay Bloggers tribe on Tribe.net, and we’ve been friends ever since. The strongest testament to our friendship is the fact that although we have some similarites (we’re both sort of small town guys and both see ourselves as sort of social misfits) we actually have very different interests. And it’s not just that we have different interests, but some of the things each of us is so passionate about (me, the glorious and exciting, most holy of all things: Vol football; him, slumber-inducing science-fictiony stuff) holds very little interest (if any) for the other. Yet, we never have trouble communicating. So, it makes me feel our bond is pretty real.
But today is about Larry and his blog, not about me. he is a sweet and funny guy, whose blog is a really nice mix of personal accounts, both present and past; and regular features like Foto Friday (pictures from his photo personal photo albums), Say It Sunday (audio posts….very smooth radio voice), and Hump Day (an idea he ripped off some poor blogger who has been talking with his lawyers.
He is one of the most open bloggers I have ever read. He really just let’s it all hang out (his emotions, I mean… stop being a perv). What I think I like best is that he seem to blog because he needs the release. He’s not about getting sympathy or high fives. He just needs a place to let it out. His posts have made me laugh, they have made me very sad, and sometimes made me say “what the f*ck??” And the guy manages to post almost every freaking day. Sometimes multiple times a day. But,I think that agenda-less honesty is what draws people to read and connect with him. I know it does me.
I know some of you are aware of The Love Lemming and already read it. If you don’t, check it out. You might find something you like. In either case, at least show your support of blogging (or just be a nice person) and drop Larry a note to tell him Happy Blogiversary.
