I love irony. Irony practically gives me a chub. So imagine the whopper I was sprouting when I found out that VP Dick Cheney, one of the NRA poster boys, accidentally shot a friend in the face over the weekend while on a hunting trip. Apparently the victim got peppered with buckshot when Cheney aimed his direction and although hospitalized, his injuries are relatively minor. It’s good to hear that it’s not real serious, but I can’t help but get a kick out of the fact that the godfather of the right wing (and therefore opposed to gun control) wasn’t more careful.  Luckily for the other hunter, there is always an ambulance on site wherever Cheney is, and he was tended to immediately.  Knowing the current administration’s track record on handling emergencies, it could have been ugly otherwise.  But, true to the executive branch’s hush-hush form, the VP’s office did not report the accident until 24 hours later, and only after the local Texas paper had reported it first.  It’ll be interesting to see where all of this goes with the press and between the two parties. Remember what a huge deal Bill’s shooting incident became?  And he didn’t even shoot Monica in the face.
