Tag Teamed
So there is a meme going around about songs. I’m still not sure what its about, but I have found out that I have been tagged for it…TWICE. Arrrgh. I’m not the meme type, but what does it hurt to take part. Ajax In The City and The Shower Room have tag teamed me. It’s okay. I’m a big boy, I can handle two guys at once.
The only thing is that there is a slight difference in the two tags. Ajax is asking me to list five songs. He didn’t say what kinds of songs—just five of them, leaving it to my imagination as to how to categorize them. Shower room has asked for ten that I am currently “digging.” Oh man. “Digging?” I’m such a square, I don’t “dig.” So, I don’t know if I’m supposed to explain anything about the songs or what. But here goes. I decided to pick ten songs that sort of define me (in no particular order).
1. Rocky Top - by anyone who recorded it (my redneck, football loving side)
2. I’ll Always Love You - by Dolly Parton (the romantic in me)
3. The Tennessee Waltz - by Patti Page (what Granny used to teach me to slow dance)
4. Oh, Yeah - by Yello (when I’m feeling large)
5. Hollaback Girl - by Gwen Stefani (ok…I’m a allowed a guilty pleasure..right?)
6. Danny Boy - was my mother’s favorite song. She hummed it all the time and it was played at her funeral. One of my favorite recordings of it is by Harry Connick, Jr.
7. My Love (You’re Never Gonna Get It) - EnVogue (the funky black girl in me)
8. Proud Mary - Ike and Tina Turner (for when I’m lazy and want to kick into gear)
9. Somewhere - West Side Story (my optimistic side)
10. His Eye Is On The Sparrow (my spiritual side)
As you can tell I like old music (and no particular style). That’s mostly because new stuff just isn’t very singable. I also don’t have much dance music on my list because I can’t dance, so I don’t enjoy it as much as singable stuff (not that I can sing either. But I’m less afraid to try that!
)
So there are my ten songs. Now have have to tag five other bloggers…or since I was double tagged, does that mean a I get to tag ten?? Well, here’s five:
Todd (cause he’s having a dry spell, anyway)
Larry (cause he’s a meme whore
)
Chad (cause I know his stuff will be cool)
Rico (cause he’s young and hip)
Paul (cause I want to know more about him)

I just downloaded “Rocky Top” not to long ago. (For upcoming obvious reasons)
I know all of those songs actually. Thanks for getting some of them stuck in my head now. “This Shit is Bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S”
Okay I’ll do this. I’m taking it a step further though. =)

Wow. . .a lot of the same types of music that I like as well. Heck, Danny Boy was a song that my mom used to sing to me as a lullaby. *closes eyes and remembers* Sorry, such a sentimental sap I am. :o)

Tanya Blount and Laryn Hill singing His eye is on the sparrow from Sister Act 2……Talk about excellent ! Have you heard that one Tony?

In 1990 I spent several months in Cork, Ireland. I watched a funeral procession down the High Street while they played DANNY BOY over and over. Maybe the most moving moments I’ve ever witnessed.
Thanks for the reminder.

I don’t mind being tagged by you as long as you’re gentle…

Just so you know, there’s nothing wrong with liking thump-thump gay boy dance music Tony - even if you don’t dance.
